Today in: Things I’ve learned covering floods
When interviewing someone, they will say, “The river goes where it wants,” or some variation thereof. And you must use it. It lends a grizzled, knowing, vaguely Huck Finn-ish quality to whomever says it. (Though, Huck would have had his reservations about purchasing a house well within the reach of non-record seasonal flooding, I assume for no particular reason). Because, you know, the river goes where it wants. Except for locks and dams and whatnot.
